Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies, a natural gas, hydrogen and hybrid electric vehicle technology provider, has reported that the orders for its compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems have quadrupled during January-June 2012.

During the period, the company had received orders from natural gas vehicle system integrators and system developers for the supply of its CNG storage tanks intended for various transportation applications which range from Class 1 to Class 8 CNG trucks.

According to company, the natural gas-powered vehicles can be fuelled for a one third less cost when compared to other vehicles, and will produce less smog-forming nitrogen oxide and particulates.

Quantum claims that its fuel tanks increase payload and passenger capacity while maximising the on board storage capacity further offering improved driving range.
